Why I Started Maya Minds

A Psychologist’s Mission to Build Trustworthy Mental Health Assessments in India

The Problem with Online Mental Health Tests Today

I’ve been working in the mental health space since 2016 and began private practice in 2020. Over the years, I noticed something deeply troubling: people consistently struggled to find reliable, accessible, and validated mental health assessments online.

Sure, there are dozens of free tests floating around the internet for things like depression, anxiety, PTSD, ADHD, and autism. But how do you know what you’re taking? Is it the PHQ-9? The DASS-21? Is it a translated version, and if so, was it translated accurately? And more importantly – is it even clinically valid?

In most cases, you wouldn’t know. You’d take a test and walk away with a label. No explanation. No context. No real insight. For something as serious and personal as your mental health, that just didn’t sit right with me.

Mental Health Assessments Are More Than Just One Test

In a clinical setting, assessment isn’t about ticking a few boxes. It’s a comprehensive and delicate process. If I’m assessing someone for depression, I don’t stop there. I look at anxiety levels, coping strategies, emotional regulation, and the broader psychological landscape.

The same applies to autism or ADHD – conditions that often overlap and mimic each other. Assessing one without screening for the other could lead to incomplete, even misleading results. A proper mental health evaluation is never one-dimensional.

And yet, most online platforms reduce this to just a single test and a generic outcome. That’s not how clinical psychology works – and it’s not how it should be presented online.

What I Wanted Maya Minds to Be

When I started Maya Minds, I had one goal: to offer online mental health assessments in India that were as reliable and comprehensive as the ones you’d get at an in-person clinic.

Every assessment you find on Maya Minds comes with:

  • The proper clinical name of the tool
  • Information about its validity, reliability, and usage
  • A structured approach, so you know exactly what you’re signing up for
  • A detailed report you can confidently share with your psychiatrist or therapist

No ambiguity. No vague labels. Just clarity.

And yes – I’m a registered rehabilitation psychologist with the RCI. That matters. Because trust matters.

Mental Health Awareness Is Growing — But So Is Misinformation

In recent years, conversations about mental health have exploded on social media. That’s a good thing in many ways. People are finally putting words to experiences that have long remained hidden.

But here’s the flip side: this awareness often comes with simplistic, even misleading narratives.

“5 signs you have ADHD.”
“This is what it’s like to be autistic.”
“Depression days be like…”
“Trauma bonding red flags.”
“Living with anxiety has you doing this…”

These posts resonate — and understandably so. They give shape to unspoken struggles. But they also risk putting people into boxes they might not actually fit. Mental health isn’t binary. It isn’t memeable. It’s complex, nuanced, and deeply personal.

We don’t diagnose thyroid issues by watching reels. We get blood work. We see a doctor. Why should mental health be any different?

Maya Minds Is Here to Help You Discover the Real You

I created Maya Minds so people could finally get the clarity they’ve been seeking — without guesswork, doubt, or misinformation.

This platform is about more than just tests. It’s about giving people:

  • Insight grounded in psychology, not pop culture
  • Access to tools that are affordable, automated, and backed by clinical science
  • Confidence in knowing what’s real, what’s reliable, and what’s right for them

I know that not everyone can walk into a clinic. But everyone deserves to understand themselves.

That’s what Maya Minds is here for.
